Hoa Lo Prison/ President Jimmy Carter

This is the Hoa Lo Prison where thousands of prisoners have lived, been tortured, and died. It opened up in the late 1800's and many Vietnamese communist supporters were sent here. During the Vietnam war, John McCain's plane was shot down over Hanoi and he spent 5 years here as a POW.

As we were walking in we saw some body guards with guns and wires in their ears....we waited to see who would come out of the building, Agustin took the camera and waited to see who it was. Thinking it was just a bunch of old people he didn't take the shot until they already passed, then snapped the camera- It was former US President Jimmy Carter! He was 2 feet away from us and we exchanged smiles! He was there with his wife and they had been in Vietnam for a Habitat for Humanity project. UNBELIEVABLE!
