Vientiane - Laos

Vientiane, the capital of Laos! We took a LONG LONG bus ride to get here, fortunately for us we got a seat. Some poor souls paid the same as us and got standing room only for the 10 hour bus ride sans AC! The capital was easy to navigate by bicycle and walking. One day we rented a motorbike to go see Buddha Park and to go around the town! After discovering that Laos has a rugby team and visiting their foundation, we had a little run in with the police......I guess running a red light in Laos is illegal?!?! After some talking and Agustin giving them an old receipt to a previous guesthouse we were on our way- with out any fines!
Vientiane is located on the Mekong river and across the river is Thailand!! We enjoyed our stay in the capital-

Wat, Wat, so many Wats in Laos! We see monks all over Laos, young men usually, dressed in orange toga style gear. They ask for money and food to survive, live and study at these elaborate Wats, and get preferential seating on buses.....BUT we have seen them shopping for CD's and at Internet cafes, so we are not sure how exactly Monk life works here!

Where are we??

Used to be covered in Gold, but it was stolen by an invasion at some point-
The laying Buddha at Buddha Park!
